  14. I am an amiga user, (A1200, 2000 and 500) but also a PC user (pentium class)
  15. My work related to video work, i am also consultant for Several Production
  16. House, Multimedia Developer (For Presentation) on my country.
  17. I know very well about the capability from Amiga Computer, i usually doing
  18. some animation rendered on Imagine then playback it direct from Harddisk using
  19. overscan lores-laced Ham8 using Clarissa, i got a very good result.
  20.  These animations then 
  21. directly recorded on BETACAM via G-LOCK (Genlock), using Composite out, 
  22. where I feed video in with broadcast quality video sync.
  23. I got no trouble with this set-up .
  24. From this setup (A1200+Glock+CSA12GaugeAccelerator+HDMaxtor 850 MB) 
  25. i got data transfer rate of more than 2.2 MB/second (Constant !!).
  26. (what a great machine, great OS , BTW my harddisk are only IDE type)

  28. Then there is a friend of mine (Video maker, Video titling using AMIGA500 + 
  29. Genlock, got a very good result just using A500+HD+accelerator+Rendale 
  30. Genlock).

  32. my friend wants to upgrade their system, so it capable to do NLE stuff.
  33. then i remember VLAB motion on AMIGA, i know that the MOVIELAB software
  34. from VLAB-motion ver 3, can do 3D effect (of course it got to be rendered)
  35. but for cutting, simple transition it more than enough, I even heard that
  36. just using A3000-25 + VLABmotion+ Very FAST HARDDISK the JPEG QUALITY
  37. can be 75 percent, hey A3000-25 is like 386DX on PC, if this baby could do
  38. this it must be outstanding.

  40. So I told him for using VLAB-Motion system. Then there is trouble, how we
  41. ordered this stuff (hey, I live in Indonesia/Asia, there is no Amiga dealer 
  42. here, i myself, and around 100 users around Indonesia got to order 
  43. Amiga+peripheral directly from UK/USA),
  44. but my friends need the systems imediately, because
  45. if we want VLAB-motion system, we also need A3000 or A4000T,
  46. so i cange my mind, then i remember about NLE card for PC, like FPS60 from 
  47. FAST or Q-motion 100 from Quadrant, i have read about this system from 
  48. magazine and internet,
  49. their recomendation are PEntium class machine + 16 MB or RAM
  50. because in my country PEntium based computer are usually cheap, so i told
  51. him we can build a NLE system based on Pentium Class machine, so i ordered
  52. Q-motion, and buy Pentium class machine + PCI NCR SCSI + SEagate SCSI2FAST 
  53. HD+ 16 MB EdoRAM  + Original Pentium clock at 150 MHZ, total my friend, 
  54. invest around US$3600, with WIN95 installed.

  57. Everything seems to work, then i check the harddisk speed, hey outstanding
  58. result : Data Transfer Rate for Reading = 14 MB/Second , Writing = 6 MB/Second
  59. WOW, i think. Then i grab live video using Q-motion using 1 MB/second
  60. transfer seting for 10 second , it works, and good, but the quality are below 
  61. S-VHS, then we grab using  2 MB/Second for 10 second, and it droping 10 frames
  62. i am upset,
  63.  then using direct to memory capture, 0 droping frame, WOW.
  64. the quality aproaching S-VHS,  then i want to capture 1 minutes live video
  65. it droping more than 100 frames, hah why ? (I am very very upset)
  66. Hey WIN95, supposed to be good at multitasking, but look at the result
  67. even USING 16MB, pentium 150 MHZ, SCSI2FAST, PCI SCSI  i can't grab using 
  68. more than 2 MB/second, i am very-very upset, i know maybe i have to fine
  69. tune the WIN95, actually i have already fine tune it, by disable write behind
  70. disable read ahead caching, and defragmented target drive for capture,
  71. it still produce the same result. My Friend Using the same setup but using 
  72. FPS60 from FAST and the result are about the same, only a litle bit more it
  73. can capture using data transfer max 2.3 MB/second.

  75. And Using ADOBE Premiere, to render 3D effect on Pentium 150, take ages
  76. to finish, for example  to render PAGE PEEL effect for Transition A to B for
  77. 7second, take almost 10 minutes or more for FULL field on Hires Lace Overscan
  78. hey, Adorage on A1200-030/50 take almost identical (a bit longer) although
  79. the effect not identical, but 3d effect too, so i think A1200-060/50 must
  80. be real FAST (considered the efficient OS->AMIGA OS).

  82. Now i know, for my other clients ( PC and APPLE MAC user) and around 5 Video
  83. maker and for Presentation Purposes, i will be advised them to using AMIGA
  84. system,  and for low budget NLE i will advised them to using Amiga system with
  85. VLAB MOTION (low budget but high quality), even if AMIGA only has 8 MB of
  86. RAM and SCSI2 drive + 16 bit bus, it capable to produce more than a system i 
  87. described above (Pentium 150 MHZ, PCI SCSI2FAST, 64 bit Tseng, 16 MB 
  88. EDORAM, 512 KB cache burst pipeline) 
  89. and for presentation purposes i will advised them to using A1200 HD+
  90. accelerator+ SCALA MM (Magic bundle+ accelerator) if they want to produce
  91. smooth movement/transition for presentation purposes VS jerky movement on 
  92. other systems.

  94. And i am also advised one of my client that will be producing 2D animation
  95. Cartoon (Cartonn Series) for One of National Television Station on my country
  96. to using AMIGA hey, i think DPAINT4 or PPaint4  is more than enough for cartoon 
  97. project, after all we have the artist, we don't need super sophisticatedSoftware
  98. on PC or MAC that need 32 MB of RAM, that has morphing capability, produce 16 
  99. Million colour  + alpha channel, we need a simple and capable program, so 
  100. artist could understand, we will exploit the artist capability by using their 
  101. Creativity not the computer.
